Revival's Fiber Arts and Gatherings

The Fiber Experience

Fiber Arts encompasses so many different methods of production. If you start looking where fibers come from you learn that it has substantial agricultural roots. Everything from plant based fibers like cotton, bamboo, and hemp to animal fibers like those produced from sheep and alpaca, these being just a few of what nature provides. Then moving forward from this basic knowledge its an adventure in the creation of thread and yarns. Carding the fibers, spinning, and on to weaving those wonderful bolts of fabrics. Dyeing for just that right hue all this leads to all our clothing, linens, rugs and more. There is just so much that is available to learn and experience I couldn’t possibly tell you all of them. So, I invite you to come and experience handwork in its many forms; Carding, Spinning, Weaving, Traditional Rug Hooking, Dyeing, Quilting, Embroidery, Crochet…..it’s quite the list and there are so many artisans and hobbyist’s with incredible talent to draw from all across our great nation you can’t help but come to love some aspect of this adventure.

Thread is a versatile, amazingly vast area of study. Simply put its all in how its spun and with what fibers.

Its all in the eye of the beholder and is truly a matter of preference for most.

Weaving- there is something magical about the rhythm of the shuttle, treadles, and beater.

fabrics-Wool, Cottons, Linen, Bamboo so many weaves, so many fibers, so little time.

Dye is the answer to fiber like crayons are to color books-Each is a visual celebration.

Greentown Indiana

The shop is #18 on the Greentown historic trail. The main floor, what used to be the Chapel, has beautiful stained glass windows that were designed and sourced locally and some have the addition of donors names installed on them for posterity. Sadly only a small amount of the original woodwork remains, however, the building retains the character and charm found in many older buildings. Not large by today’s standards, the chapel area can be utilized for smaller scale gatherings, Guild meetings, craft bazaars, retreats, hook-ins etc. Several looms, vintage hand-quilting frames, and spinning wheels add to the charm of the space. Our Community members are encouraged to come sit, work their projects, learn a new skill or just visit. The lower Floor of the building is where our dedicated Dye Kitchen and work area can be found . The entire building is a permanent “home” offered to guilds and enthusiasts of Traditional Rug Hooking, Weaving, Spinning, Quilting, and other types of fiber handwork. We are unique to Howard County and Invite you to come see what we have to offer at the shop once the building restoration and renovation are complete.
