Here We Are
It’s been too long since I’ve updated my blog. I’m still working on the building and believing in the dream I have. Some days have been better than others. As for the not so nice days when things seem to not be moving as fast as I would like or projects don’t seem to turn out like I would like they are are my learning curve. Nothing worthwhile ever comes fast and it definitely doesn’t happen overnight. So far the demo has been moving along. I’ve gotten some paint on the walls that were able to be done and I have brand new doors on the horizon. I was able to order new front and back doors that will make the pursuit of ADA compliance so much easier. But even this has provided unexpected barriers. Because of the step up into the building I either needed to jackhammer out the concrete that had been placed years ago or - My idea create a porch that enables the threshold of the new doors to meet the decking and a smooth transition into the building then ramps to the porch. It’s a win win. plenty of space to sit and visit and ease of movement. I drew up plans for the porch width and length that utilizes the underlying concrete. Decreasing the overall cost of the ramps and porch build. One dilemma solved. I recently lost my business sign to wind so I will be rebuilding it with the hope its done before the Howard County Fair starts. I bought all the supplies and will be starting this in the next few days. Probably my longest and most visible exterior project to date is the quilt block mural I drew and painted on the outside of the building. Two months on and off a ladder to draw the grid , then the blocks, and picking out the quilt blocks that I liked the best. Some very simple and others not so much. Then three almost 4 weeks of painting but its finally on the cusp of completion and It makes me smile. I wasn’t sure about it at times and was on scaffolding that was higher that I would have liked to complete the painting but a little touch up, sealed, and voila. Something fun to look at and maybe make someone curious about the building and what it has inside. I picked the trim paint and exterior color that will be going on this summer. all the windows have been caulked and painted. Water barrels are at three corners to make watering the flowers easier. I have a brand new shed to store things and provide a place to work on projects for the landscaping. I am so encouraged every time I am here in my building and what was once overwhelming in appearance gives way to progress. People have come by and several have been inside and I could tell by their faces they had difficulty seeing what I do. Progress. to most its still a huge undertaking but I’m positive that my dream for this space will be realized and it will be incredibly beautiful once its done. So on that note I’m going to stop here and get some sleep. Its been a long day and I’m tired.
